Safiya Alavi completed her Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Data Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2023. During university, she worked as an Undergraduate Researcher in the Moeller Lab at UCSB, contributing her skills in data analysis to understand the effect of global warming on carbon cycling in the ocean. Additionally, she worked with biotechnology company Amgen to complete her capstone project at UCSB, which involved training NLP and text mining algorithms to increase efficiency in summarizing biomedical-related research papers. Currently, Safiya is completing a Master’s degree in Data Science from UC Berkeley.
